Rose Barker – Board President


Rose is an Identity Theft Prevention Specialist and Senior Director with Harvard Risk Management Corporation. She volunteers with the Oregon chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, is an ambassador of CouchSurfing, and enjoys swimming across the Willamette River on warm summer days. She lived abroad several years in Mexico and Ecuador and is an avid traveler. She values fostering local community and commerce. Rose is a Salem native and attended Chemeketa Community College and Willamette University.

Scott Sadler – Board Vice President


Scott is a 28 year entrepreneur. He is a certified mastermind executive coach, national speaker, and facilitator and works with organizations and individuals on leadership, communication and specializes in helping businesses develop Millennial leaders. Scott is the board chair for the Inspire Foundation, past board chair for Liberty House, a child abuse assessment center, team leader for the Leadership Youth Program, and serves the community as a leader for his Community Emergency Response Team. He is an avid outdoorsman, mountaineer, hiker and a trained wilderness survival expert. He and his wife Ingrid enjoy travel, food and spending time with family and friends.

Jose Garcia – Board Secretary


José R. García is a Salem native, graduate of North Salem High School and Western Oregon University. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business with a minor in Spanish, and has experience working in non-profits, political campaigns, and a small family business. Currently, José works as an education Program Coordinator in Yamhill County for Oregon State University and Chemeketa Community College. As a first generation American-born son of immigrant parents from Jalisco, Mexico, José strives to stay true to his family’s culture while embracing his own individuality and interests. He considers himself an advocate for minority communities and intends to make a positive impact in the lives of anyone he works with.


Marie Trucco – Board Treasurer

Marie is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. With 18 years of corporate management experience including Management Development Training she was instrumental in opening the ShopKo store in Salem . Additionally, Marie owned and operated a retail store; Corky’s Daughter in Salem for 11 years and has more than 10 years of small business consulting experience with an emphasis in retail operations.

Teri Alexander – Board Member


Teri Alexander is a graduate of Linfield College and earned her Masters of Science degree in Management and Organizational Leadership from Warner Pacific University. With experience in non-profit management as an Associate Director at Catholic Community Services and 18 years of retail experience at Nordstrom, she has developed a deep understanding of the dynamics of non-profit and for-profit businesses and has always been motivated to participate and involve others in making and ensuring that their communities are healthy places to raise their families.

Kaydee Kreitlow – Board Member

Kaydee Kreitlow

Originally from Beaverton, Oregon, Kaydee received her Bachelor’s of Architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After several years of architecture firm experience, she augmented her education with a summer at the design-build school, Yestermorrow in Vermont. She returned to NYC to spend a year as an AmeriCorps member with Habitat for Humanity. Her biggest strengths are project management, creative problem solving and big picture planning for both work and fun! She loves travel, animals, photography and making things. Kaydee is an architect and co-founder of the Salem makerspace community: Spark Studio Salem.

Quinn Burke – Board Member

Quinn Burke

Quinn is a Salem native, graduate of South Salem HS and an MBA from Willamette University. He served just over four years as the VP of Union Gospel Mission of Salem, followed by two years as the operations manager for a residential development and construction company, and is now a real estate agent with Harvey Realty Group. Quinn is also a board member of the Salem Leadership Foundation and member of the downtown Salem Rotary club. He and his wife Katy enjoy traveling, everything wine, and raising up their son, Maxwell Quinn, in Oregon’s best community.

Kate Schwarzler – Board Member

Kate Schwarzler

With over 20 years of experience, Kate’s willingness to try new avenues has allowed her to develop a deep and interesting range of capabilities and leadership skills. She has been fortunate to combine her creative side (Bachelor of Landscape Architecture) with her love of business management (Master of Business Administration). Rather than focusing on her next title, she let the allure of a new challenge be her guide. As an entrepreneur, her biggest thrill is seeing an idea or dream become tangible and real. She’s passionate about sharing her extensive experience in project management, business management, natural resources, and community planning with others through consulting, teaching, mentoring, and participating in the community.

MERIT to Launch Second Phase of Financial Empowerment Academy

Salem, Oregon – Tuesday February 20, 2018 – In a motivating influence for the Willamette Valley community, MERIT (Micro Enterprise Resource Initiatives and Training) continues providing comprehensive financial and business resources for local business owners and families.

MERIT is a 501(c)3 non-profit, located in downtown Salem’s Center for Business and Industry, and has been helping determined individuals blossom into prosperous business owners in our community for over 13 years. True to their philosophy, MERIT has been a resource in providing training and workshops for local entrepreneurs and business owners who wish to take their ideas to the next level.

Through Initiatives such as group classes, IDA’s (3 to 1 matched savings), lending circles and coaching; MERIT has helped seed the foundations of main street businesses throughout the Willamette Valley.
